Deck & Fence Cleaning (Wood-Safe) in the Salem Area

A deck is the one exterior surface where the wrong method is unmistakable — fuzzed grain and a stripped finish are visible from the doorway.

Wood-safe cleaning instead of "blast it"

Wood is soft. Pressure does not clean the grain, it removes it.

After cleaning: dry time before staining or sealing

This is the step that decides whether your new finish sticks.

Deck and fence questions

Can you clean a sealed deck without ruining the sealer?
Usually yes, at soft-wash pressure with a detergent matched to the growth rather than a stripper. What we will not do is blast it — that is what removes sealer. If the finish is already failing, cleaning may take some of it with it, and we would rather tell you that beforehand than surprise you.
Will cleaning make my deck fuzzy?
Soft washing at low pressure does not raise the grain. Furring comes from high pressure held close to the wood. If your deck is already fuzzy from someone else's attempt, cleaning will not reverse that — it needs sanding.
How long until I can stain or seal it?
Until the wood is dry through, which in this climate is often several days and sometimes longer. Humidity matters more than sunshine, so we recommend checking with a moisture meter rather than counting days.
Do you clean both sides of a fence?
Where we can reach it, yes. The neighbour's side and the shaded face usually carry more growth, and cleaning one face of a panel tends to show up the other.
